Research & Campaigns


Research and Campaigns is one of the twin aims of Citizens Advice Sedgemoor, as it is throughout the Citizens Advice service.

As a service we have a huge amount of insight, information and evidence about the problems that our clients face.

The purpose of Research and Campaigns is to improve the policies and practices that affect people’s lives.  Sometimes our Advisers come away after dealing with a case with the sense that “It just isn’t fair!” and “Somebody has got to do something about it”. The role of the Research and Campaigns is to identify such problems and do something.

We are still working with the Rural Issues Group of bureaus.  The group identified Transport as a main concern for rural people and this led to publication of a Report “Ticket to Ride“. And we are now campaigning to raise awareness of the problems and encourage solutions.

In 2016 we carried out some research and published a report “Read all about it“. We discovered that a large proportion of people can’t deal with official correspondence, and some people simply don’t.

Every year we take part in some national campaigns – Scams Awareness Month and Big Energy Saving Week.  In the autumn of 2017 we were commissioned to report on Homelessness.  The law was to change in April 2018, but we recognised it as a problem some years ago.  The report was well received by Sedgemoor District Council and we are optimistic that things are improving.
